Digital communication is here to stay, and we need to be more conscious of how we present ourselves to our co-workers and colleagues. Without taking the time to consider how we communicate digitally, it may become easy to misinterpret a persons intention. The consequences can wreck havoc on remote teams. To combat the increased possibility of miscommunication, a few options are presented in this article. For example, try identifying your own “digital body language.” In the real world, this can be facial expressions, yawning, or nervous body movements. In the digital context, it can be emojis, capitalization, and punctuation. If all team members take their own assessment, and then assess their coworkers, they can find ways to establish a safe place of empathy and trust.
